THE FOLLOWING IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PEOPLE WHO USE THE INTERNET.
One of the reasons Internet services are so cool is because, when they’re designed correctly, they put you in control of what you see, and how you see it. I take advantage of this when I feel like it, and I’m perplexed that more people don’t. Sometimes, blocking someone on Twitter is akin to hanging up on someone who’s talking your ear off (i.e., filling up your @-mentions) with something you don’t find valuable (i.e., @Dov_jaspamaster’s stonewalling, in this instance).
Some people think my willingness to forcefully end such useless exchanges makes me an asshole. Well, if that makes me an asshole, ask yourself if you’ve ever done something similar. And, if not, ask yourself if you feel like you would have been better off walking away from that person or hanging up on them when you had enough of the conversation. (You remember telemarketers, right?)
